Back to Barcelona

Hello Dear Readers!

We’ve wrapped up our second week of seminars (time is flying by!). Here are some of the highlights of this Saturday before we head into our last week of programming.

Studio time for another session so the fashionistas can develop their upcycled creations! George is combining textiles and turning a shirt dress into a two piece suit.

Students getting creative and the upcycled projects are starting to take shape!

They are also discussing ideas on how to present their work with a lot of interest in taking to the streets and having a fashion editorial photo shoot!

Our business students at MACBA, the Museum of Contemporary Art Barcelona. Their focus was to tour the galleries filled with 20th century art covering many humanitarian issues in Spain and Catalunya, and to take inspiration in the advertisements displayed. Culture, entrepreneurship, and historical government manifestos all coincided!

Catherine’s Spanish seminar went to her namesake market, Santa Caterina, and spoke with the friendly market vendors about their wares and recommendations. Students learned some useful vocab: the food expression “dar gato por liebre”, or the equivalent of “pass off mutton for lamb” or literally “give cat and say it’s rabbit”. They also had the chance to see rabbit and other wild game in the market butcher shop!

Art and Architecture students sketching in the Picasso Museum.

Art and Architecture and Emily’s Spanish seminar tag teamed and went on a guided walking tour of El Raval district. to get a better sense of Barcelona’s authentic nature and hidden gems reserved for the locals. Students did a great job of translating for the non-Spanish speakers!

Keith Haring graffiti art.

Learning about Catalan independence movements and anarchism.

Students got to see the hospital where Gaudí passed away.

Rubbing the Raval cat statue for good luck!

For dinner, Putney took a little excursion to Carrer Blai, one of the best streets for tapas in Barcelona.

Students ended the night with a fountain show at Montjuic!

Our lovely leaders Monika, Ben, Morgan, and Emily at the fountain show!
