It’s Day 2 and we’re already ready to dive into our seminars! This year in Barcelona, we have four Pre-College classes happening simultaneously: Fashion & Culture, Art & Architecture, Business & Entrepreneurship, and Spanish Language (split into two sections).

The Fashion & Culture crew (with veteran Putney leader, Ben) started off their Tuesday morning chatting about sustainability, diversity, equity, and inclusion at a beach cafe!

After coffee on the beach and some games getting to know the group, Catherine’s Spanish Language seminar did some exploring around Barceloneta on the way back to the residence.

Meanwhile, Emily’s Spanish Language seminar discussed music as an example of cultural expression. They then visited five art installations in the barrio to discuss the culture of the beach!

In Business and Entrepreneurship, seminar leader Kuba and students went to explore the El Born neighborhood, and compared Santa Caterina Market to the local businesses in the area, as well as chatted about the use of landmarks to display advertisements. Boss ladies!

Last but certainly not least, Mo (another veteran Putney leader) took her Art & Architecture students for a walk along the waterfront analyzing the buildings and public art and discussing the interwoven nature of both. The team then faced off in a sand castle building exercise where they were challenged to design a space. They did a great job assigning program and meaning with found limited materials. All are looking forward to exploring Barcelona more tomorrow!

After lunch, the afternoon was spent biking around the city with a guide.

For Tuesday night’s activity: dinner and a flamenco guitar concert in a medieval basilica! The night was capped off with a photo op with the artist and some new exciting tapas! For for those wanting to relax and wind down a little bit, we did a movie night back at the residence.
