July 10 & 11 in Barcelona!

Ola a nuestra familia y amigos en los estados unidos!

July 10th was an eventful day! Our photography and business management classes had a visit to the town of Sitges. There, the international sports and business management seminar visited an athletic facility named Club Natacio and learned about business models and practices. The photography class had a workshop on the technical aspects of the trade, then put their new skills to use in the beautiful seaside city.

The Spanish language course and the drawing course visited Monsterrat, a monastery in the mountains outside of Barcelona. The group enjoyed a hike, took photos, and discussed the beautiful scenery in Spanish. We finished off the day with a night in, where we ordered delicious take-out and spent time together as a group.

July 11th was another full day. Our international relations class took a visit to the Museu d’Historio de Inmigracio de Catalunya. We discussed the importance of storytelling in understanding immigration, and learned about the reasons for immigration in Catalonia since the 1930’s. In the afternoon activities, students enjoyed a graffiti tour (back by popular demand!), the teleferico (a gondola going over the city and port of Barcelona), and wrote postcards to send home to their parents. In the evening, we played basketball, went to the aquarium, and enjoyed watching the World Cup game between France and Belgium.

Student writing:

Today as an International Business class we met with a professional photographer who talked about his work and how he started his own business. We learned about the educational, financial and outreach portions of starting a company. He showed us how he prices each job and gave the class a better understanding of how freelance professionals make a living.  In the afternoon, a group of students went on a graffiti tour, others wrote letters to friends and family, and the rest of the group went on a cable car ride from the top of the mountain to the beach.  We ended the night with a quick basketball game or a visit to the aquarium.  After a long day, the group watched a world cup game in our residence and hung out.
